October 2022
Welcome back to the studio, and Happy Fall everyone! We are off to a great start for the year, learning and playing new music. We've even started working on Christmas / Holiday music so we can play for family and friends, and for the residents at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care on Saturday, December 10th at 2:30pm. Each student can prepare 1 - 3 pieces to play, memory preferred at least on some, but music can be used, too. Feel free to wear your holiday colors/outfits! We will have a wonderful time!
Are you setting aside time each day for practice? It's not how many times you practice, it's how carefully! If not done purposefully and mindfully, practice can make permanent instead of perfect! Try not to repeat errors, without correcting them or they become a permanent part of your music! Strive for Excellence!
I look forward to seeing you at each lesson!

April 2021
Thank you, students and parents, for a successful recital! Though we all would prefer to have our "Piano Party" live and in-person, the Zoom platform allowed us to meet virtually on April 22nd and hear all the wonderful music prepared by our students. You all played beautifully! I am very pleased at the variety of music presented and for the Beethoven pieces played to celebrate his 250th anniversary. Bravo, all!
We have had a satisfying, though challenging, year during the pandemic. Thank you for your diligence in lessons and practice!
Speaking of practice, I would like to announce the results of the "Repertoire Practice Record" challenge.
Congratulations to the following students:
Mary Beth Winters - 1st place with 375 practice sessions, and 3 "V"s (5-in-a-row perfectly)!
Walker Snow - 2nd place with 344 practice sessions!
Ariel Witt - Honorable Mention with 4 "V"s (5-in-a-row perfectly)!
The first and second week of May will be the conclusion of the 2020-2021 lessons. In these lessons, we will be following up from the recital, and looking ahead to what students will study next. I will be offering some summer lessons on a limited basis for those who are interested. Please let me know if you wish to arrange some summer study.
Now is the time to reserve your space in next year's schedule, and to let me know if there are any changes you need to make. Spaces are offered to new, incoming students over the summer only after spaces reserved for current students are confirmed.

February 2021
Happy Valentine Month! I just hung my Valentine wreath on the front door today. It's a special time for us to express our love to those we care most about. Perhaps some beautiful music (played on piano?) will help us show our love!
Our lessons continue safely in-person while we continue to take the necessary precautions of masking, sanitizing, and distancing. I'm praying for good health for all students and families as we try to cope with living life during a pandemic. I am so thankful for the care and patience you have all shown.
I'm hoping that being able to enjoy playing your music has brought some comfort to you and those in your household during this unusual season of staying at home more than we are accustomed to. Here at my home, we have played a lot more games and assembled more (1000 piece!) puzzles than normal! Unfortunately, we have also missed being together with our children and grandchildren as often as we like. It's probably much the same in many families.
We will continue our lessons through the 2nd week of May. Whether we have our Annual Piano Party still remains uncertain right now. I'll make that determination in the coming weeks based on news reports concerning the COVID-19 trend and student/family input.
If you haven't yet, please visit and "like" the Ruth Piano Studio Facebook page. Feel free to leave me a message there, if you wish.

June 2020
Our Spring term was interrupted at the end of March due to the spread of the COVid-19 virus. In-person lessons were suspended, while some students chose to continue with online lessons through the end of May. I am hopeful that we will be able to return to in-person lessons with the start of the Fall 2020 term in September. All necessary health precautions will be observed in my studio to safeguard all students. Lessons will begin the week after Labor Day.
Our Practice Challenge, which ran from March 2 - April 12, 2020 resulted in two winners: Mary Beth Winters - Highest Total of Minutes practiced @ 975 minutes; Ariel Witt - most consistent /every day practice @ 900 minutes. Their prizes included Barnes & Noble gift cards, certificates and ribbons. Congratulations Mary Beth and Ariel!
Congratulations to Lexington High School Senior Sydney Devoe! Sydney was recognized as a graduating senior with a Piano Trophy and a book of Beethoven Sonatas. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, Sydney!
Now is the time to confirm your lesson slot for the Fall 2020 term. Please let me know your plans as soon as possible.
I hope you all have a safe and healthy summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

September 2019
Our new year is off to a great start! It is so good to see all of the students again after summer break!
It will be a wonderful year of learning new music and completing previously started pieces. I am excited about the newly designed lesson schedule that should allow additional time during lessons for more in-depth study, as well as more time for students to complete assignments between lessons. Remember there are no lessons on a 5th week except in March 2020 due to Spring Break the first week of April.
I can't wait for my piano tuner to come next week to tune the Yamaha grand piano in my studio! I hope you all enjoy playing on a freshly tuned piano as much as I do! I feel like a child in a candy shop every time I sit down to play after a tuning...just listening for all the beautiful tones coming from the piano! If you have not had your piano tuned recently, please consider doing so. You will be glad you did! I can provide information about local tuners; just ask me.
Remember to turn in your 2019 - 2020 Studio Enrollment Forms so I can keep my records up-to-date. I also use this to draw up a "Lesson Swap List" so students can contact another student and request to swap lesson days/dates in the event of a scheduling conflict. You can also indicate on this form whether you wish to receive a subscription to Piano Explorer magazine. Cost is $6 for one year.
I will be posting event information for the year ahead shortly on the EVENTS page, so be sure to check that for dates, locations, etc.
Monthly Tuition can be paid online using PayPal by going to the MORE menu and clicking on TUITION. Payment amounts have been adjusted for the new year. Using the buttons, select either 45 minute or 60 minute lessons. There is no longer a 30 minute option. You must have a PayPal account in order to use this payment method. Of course, cash and check are accepted as well.
As always, feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help.
Here's to a GREAT YEAR!!!
